Columbus Day

Columbus Day today was a holiday so I stayed home and sort of wasted the day away.  I had to do my annual compliance for the ambulance.  In case people don’t know what that is, it is an annual requirement to do on-line training in areas such as bloodborne pathogen, OSHA, general safety (fire extinguishers, electrical chords), workplace violence, sexual harassment, comprorate ethics, internet security, etc.  I have to do annual compliance training both for my ambulance job and for my hospital job.  I can do the hospital training at work, the ambulance training I would have to drive to the base to do it, which is what I should have done in order to get paid.  It took me 5 hours to do all the modules.  Halfway through I finally got up and went to the gym, which was good.  It always makes me feel good when I work out

For the three day weekend, I feel like I wasted much of it.  I ran a little on Saturday, did an upper body lift on Sunday and now lower body on Monday.  Still only had about 2000 steps in for the day.  After I finished up the modules on my return, I could focus on what I was going to do for my hot dog.  I was down to my last hot dog bun and it was sort of stale so I decided to walk to the store, which was a good idea.  Beautiful day.  My walk to the store takes me across the athletic fields of a local private grammar school.  I pass the softball field, the playground, the soccer field, and the basketball courts.  I can help but think of all the days I spent out there with my girls teaching them everything from how to ride a bike to how to make a layup.  Good memories.

My middle daughter was coming over tonight, along with her boyfriend, to have dinner with us, so at the store I bought steak and some shrimp and more vegetables.  I also bought another bag of chips. Can’t help myself.  We still had some leftovers my wife brought home from the Jamaican feast at her mom’s yesterday.  I used some of the curry goat and rice and peas to make myself another Irie Dog.

It was good to have a nice dinner.  I always cook a lot of dishes so people can sample what they like. We had thin cut top round steak, garlic sauteed shrimp, broccolini also with garlic, baked sweet potato, carrots and brussel sprouts, and grapes for dessert.

Both my daughters are very fit, and my wife is pretty fit too though lately she has been slacking. We both watch too much TV.   She is just getting back in the gym after some medical procedures a couple months ago.I am hoping when she gets back to running her 5Ks, I can tag along and maybe when I am ready do a run/walk, and then after we can hit some of the hot dog places in the state I haven’t been to yet.

I ended the day with just under 5,000 steps.  I'm going to need to step it up.   If I am the poster boy for the HDDaFR, I need to start earning my keep.

Like Christopher Columbus I need to find my way to the New World.

Day 87 still on the voyage.
